Planting Instructions:

• Timing: Start seeds indoors 8-12 weeks before the last frost or directly sow outdoors after the danger of frost has passed.
• Location: Choose a sunny spot with well-draining soil, enriched with compost or organic matter.
• Depth & Spacing: Sow seeds 1/4 inch deep and space plants about 3-4 feet apart to give them room to grow.
• Watering: Keep soil consistently moist but not waterlogged during germination.

Growing Tips:

• Temperature: Artichokes thrive in cool weather but need a growing season of 150-180 days. They prefer temperatures between 50–85°F.
• Mulching: Apply mulch to retain moisture and regulate soil temperature.
• Fertilizing: Use a balanced fertilizer every 3-4 weeks during the growing season for optimal growth.
• Pruning: Remove spent leaves to encourage airflow and reduce the risk of disease.
• Support: If plants become large, consider staking to prevent them from toppling over.

Harvesting Instructions:

• Timing: Harvest artichokes when the buds are firm and tightly closed, usually in late spring or early summer.
• Method: Cut the stem about 1-3 inches below the bud using a sharp knife. Harvest primary buds first, then secondary ones as they mature.
• Frequency: Regularly check for mature buds to maximize yield, as new buds will continue to develop.
