Growing Non-GMO Arugula Seeds – Rocket Vegetable Seeds
Sow these seeds as early in the spring as the soil is workable, following the provided spacing guidelines. When seedlings are 2-3 inches tall, thin them to 3-4 inches apart. These plants grow rapidly and steadily. Note that the leaf flavor becomes more pungent with warmer weather and less irrigation. To achieve optimal growth and flavor, sow seeds early while temperatures are still cool in loose, well-composted soil, and keep the soil evenly moist.
Roquette arugula seeds are popularly sown about every 2 weeks in the summer for a successive and season-long crop. Although slow to bolt, rocket arugula still benefits from partial shade in the summer heat, which encourages continuous production until frost. Roquette arugula seeds are also fantastic for microgreens, allowing year-round indoor sowing and harvesting, offering a creative and appetizing way to use extra seeds over the winter.
Rocket Arugula in the Vegetable Garden
This variety of arugula is perfect for warm summers where other types may struggle. It withstands higher temperatures without bolting. Bolting occurs when the plant starts to produce seeds, changing the texture and flavor of the leaves to be less desirable.
Try growing this variety in container gardens by scattering a few seeds in a pot and keeping them next to a window or patio for easy access. Arugula is also excellent for utilizing extra space early in the season before larger plants, like pumpkins, fully mature and take over.
Harvesting Rocket Arugula
Baby leaves can be harvested as early as 25 days, while larger leaves will be ready in 45 days. You can harvest the entire plant or individual leaves. Continuous harvesting of outer leaves will encourage more growth.
About Rocket Arugula Garden Seeds
Arugula has a bolder texture compared to other leafy greens like lettuces. It works well in mixed salads and as garnishes. These low-growing leafy greens can find a spot in any garden or kitchen and pair very well with lighter and bitter flavors, making them a perfect accessory herb.
Not only are these leafy greens delicious when eaten fresh, but they also perform well when cooked. Use them as you would spinach or kale. Growing arugula at home offers numerous benefits: it’s better for the environment, provides fresher and more nutrient-dense produce, and allows you to control the chemicals or substances used in growing the plants.
